Development of CAI system employing synthesized speech responses

چکیده
This paper proposes a Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) system that teaches students how to write Japanese characters. The most important feature of the system is the usage of synthesized speech to interact with users. The CAI system has a video display tablet interface. A user traces a pattern of a character using the tablet pen, and simultaneously his tracing is shown on the display. When the trace line is outside the pattern, the system simultaneously outputs synthesized speech to correct the errors. To design strategies for generating instructions, behavior and instruction messages of a human teacher were recorded and analyzed. One of the most interesting challenges of the system is a function that changes the "personality" of the teacher, such as a strict teacher, a friendly teacher, and a shorttempered teacher. According to the experimental results, it was confirmed that the proposed system makes it possible to convey a particular impression using synthesized speech.

This paper introduces two syllable and diphone speech databases for Persian and investigates the way of their development and their specifications and their advantages to each other. ...
متن کاملRecognition and Real Time Performances of a Lightweight Ultrasound Based Silent Speech Interface Employing a Language Model
The work presents advances in the implementation of an ultrasound based silent speech interface system. Use of a portable acquisition device, a visual speech recognizer system with a language model, and real time tests with the Julius system are described. Experiments with two types of visual feature extraction are also presented. Results show that good recognition and real time performance can...

In this paper, the authors investigate whether Persians who have been exposed to Australian culture are still affected by their cultural norms—in particular by the politeness system taarof—in responding to compliments in an intercultural interaction. Compliment responses were elicited—through a Discourse Completion Task—from thirty participants (five males and five fem...

Speech delay with an unknown cause is a problem among children. This diagnosis is the last differential diagnosis after observing normal findings in routine hearing tests. The present study was undertaken to determine whether auditory brainstem responses to click stimuli are different between normally developing children and children suffering from delayed speech with unknown causes. In this cr...
